About SYD

About Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport

Sydney Kingsford Smith is Australia's busiest airport — 40+ million passengers a year. Located at Mascot, NSW 2020, ~8 km south of the Sydney CBD, it is the primary international gateway for New South Wales.

The airport operates three passenger terminals, each handling distinct airline groups. Terminal 1 is Sydney's only international terminal — every overseas flight departs and arrives through T1. Terminal 2 is the domestic hub for Virgin Australia, Jetstar, Rex. Terminal 3 is dedicated exclusively to Qantas and QantasLink. T2 and T3 are walking distance from each other; T1 is on the opposite side of the runway.

This guide answers the 33 most common questions travellers ask about SYD — from which terminal you need, to where to nap before a 6am flight, to the cheapest way to reach the airport from your suburb. Each guide is updated quarterly to reflect current operations.
