New South Wales has four school holiday periods each year — Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring. Each one creates a predictable surge in airport demand as tens of thousands of families depart simultaneously. Planning your airport transfer well in advance is the single biggest thing you can do to protect your travel day.
Summer Break — The Biggest Holiday Peak
The Summer school holidays (mid-December to late January) overlap with Christmas, New Year and Australia Day — making it by far the busiest airport period of the year. Sydney Airport sees record passenger numbers across all three terminals. If you're departing over Christmas or returning after New Year, book your shuttle at least 7–10 days ahead.
